A stunning, comprehensive retrospective on contemporary artist Ben Nicholson as presented by the Alan Cristea Gallery in London in 2007. This linen hard-cover gallery catalogue is accompanied by the gallery visitor's guide which explains...

"This is the most comprehensive Ben Nicholson print exhibition ever staged. The show contains over 110 works, most of which are for sale. The majority of the words come from an important private collection which was built up over many years and which is now being offered for sale exclusively through this gallery. The collection contains a number of extremely rare early hand-worked linocuts, drypoint of St. Ives, annotated working proofs, trial proofs, hand-colored etchings, as well as original printing plates and Lino-blocks. Many of the works in the collection are unique."

ABOUT THIS BOOK (also from the visitor's guide) "The exhibition is accompanied by a fully illustrated hard-bound catalogue which contains a new essay by Jeremy Lewison, a former curator at the Tate Gallery and an expert on the artist. His essay re-examines in depth the way Nicholson conceived and printed all the editions which he made from 1928-1969. The catalogue not only documents all of the prints in this exhibition but also all other known works. In so doing, it constitutes the most extensive record of Nicholson's prints to date."

ABOUT THE ARTIST (Courtesy of Wikipedia) Benjamin Lauder Nicholson, OM (1894–1982) was an English painter of abstract compositions (sometimes in low relief), landscape and still-life.... Some of Nicholson's works can be seen at the Tate Gallery, Tate St Ives, Kettle's Yard Art Gallery in Cambridge, The Hepworth Wakefield, Pallant House Gallery in Chichester and the Pier Arts Centre in Stromness, Orkney. An auction record for this artist of $1,650,500 was set at Christie's, New York, for Sept 53 (Balearic), an oil and pencil on canvas, on 1 November 2011. His painting Fiddle and Spanish Guitar, in oil and gravel on masonite, was sold for €3,313,000 by Christie's in Paris on 27 September 2012.
