RARE! 200 Viennese Recipes was written by Madame Melanie Reichelt in 1931. This FIRST EDITION antique cookbook is in excellent condition, featuring nearly 100 recipes from Vienna, Austria. Published by Wm. Filene's Sons & Company, it appears this was a collaboration between Mme. Reichelt and Filene's Department Store of Boston, Massachusetts. We presume the book was produced and sold exclusively through Filene's making it a rare find today!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR (Courtesy of the Foreword)
Many very famous people have sat the little tables of Mme. Reichelt's inn at Baden on the edge of the Vienna forest an inn made internationally famous by the recipes in this collection. The most brilliant pre-war (pre-WWI) society of Austria was numbered among the inn's guests -- Arthur Schnitzler, Prince Lichentenstein, Princess Hohenlohe, etc. It appears Mme. Reichelt conducted a U.S. speaking and cooking tour in the 1920s. This book, published for Filene's Department Store, was a result of that tour.

ABOUT THE FOREWORD (Courtesy of Massachusetts Broadcasters Hall of Fame)
Marjorie Mills was a trailblazer for women as a reporter for the Boston Herald and Boston Evening Traveler and as an on-air personality on WEEI, WNAC and WBZ in the 1930’s, 40’s and 50’s.

ABOUT FILENE'S (Courtesy of Wikipedia)
Filene's (originally William Filene & Sons Co.) was an American department store chain; it was founded by William Filene in 1881. The success of the original full-line store in Boston, Massachusetts, was supplemented by the foundation of its off-price sister store Filene's Basement in 1908. Filene's, in partnership with Abraham & Straus, Lazarus, and Shillito's, was an original member of the holding company Federated Department Stores upon its establishment in 1929.
