A Book of Good Luncheons by Mary J. Lincoln, author of the Boston Cook Book | 1916 Antique Cookbook | Antique Luncheon Cookbook
RARE! A Book of Good Luncheons or What to Have for Luncheons was written by Mrs. Mary J. Lincoln, author of the Boston Cooking School Cookbook. This is the second edition published in 1916 by Dodge Publishing of New York.
As Mrs. Lincoln explains... "The terms lunch and luncheon, meaning a light meal between the breakfast and dinner, are often used indiscriminately; usually we say in daily parlance, "What shall we have for lunch today?" but when we invite our friends to share the meal, we use instinctively the more formal and elegant word "luncheon." something of this etymological difference has crept into the meal itself, for the simple noon meal of the family, has become one of the most elaborate functions of modern society life. A luncheon is the popular form of exchanging hospitality with intimate friends... and the guests are generally limited to women. It is a brave man indeed who can go through the trying ordeal of "the one man at the ladies' luncheon."
In this beautifully designed book, Mrs. Lincoln offers advice on everything from table settings, china selections and decorations to menus and recipes for your next Downton Abbey luncheon.
A wonderful addition to any antique cookbook library or for anyone who loves lunch(eon)!
