Chimney Corner Stories by Veronica S. Hutchinson | Illustrated by Lois Lens | 1925 Children's Reader Schoolbook | Classic Illustrations
Chimney Corner Stories: Tales for Little Children was collected and retold by Veronica S. Hutchinson, illustrated by Newbery Medal winner Lois Lenski. The book was originally published in 1925. This copy is from the 20th printing. This 149 page book is compendium of 16 children's fables among them Henny Penny, The Three Bears, Peter Rabbit, and Cinderella and lesser known stories such as Breman Town Musicians, Mr. & Mrs. Vinegar, and The Little Red Hen & the Grain of Wheat.
Our favorite part of the book is the illustrations, both in color and black & white by one of the world's best children's illustrators, Lois Lenski, perhaps best known as the original illustrator of The Little Engine That Could.
The title Chimney Corner Stories was inspired by Robert Louis Stevenson's A Child's Garden of Verses.
A great addition to your antique children's library or for homeschoolers who enjoy classic children's tales..
