RARE! Halakhic Man by Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik | 1983 Leather Bound Edition | Jewish Essays | Bixley Shop
This is a FIRST ENGLISH EDITION copy of Halakhic Man by the revered Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik, published in 1983. A beautiful, leather-bound edition of essays on Jewish life and law, the translator's preface describes the work...
Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik's essay Halakhic Man is a unique, almost unclassifiable work. It's pages include a brilliant exposition of Mitnaggedism, of Lithuanian religiosity with its emphasis on Talmudism; a profound excursion into religious psychology and phenomonology; a pioneering attempt at a philosophy of Halakah, a stringent critique of mysticism and romantic religion in general; as well as anecdotal family history -- all held together by the force of the author's highly personal vision."
A beautiful, leather-bound first edition for anyone interested in Jewish studies.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR (Courtesy of Wikipedia)
Joseph Ber Soloveitchik (1903-1993) was a major American Orthodox rabbi, Talmudist, and modern Jewish philosopher. He was a scion of the Lithuanian Jewish Soloveitchik rabbinic dynasty. As a rosh yeshiva of Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary (RIETS) at Yeshiva University in New York City, The Rav, as he was known, ordained close to 2,000 rabbis over the course of almost half a century. Some Rabbinic literature, such as sefer Shiurei HaGrid refers to him as הגרי"ד, short for "The great Rabbi Yosef Dov".
He is regarded as a seminal figure by Modern Orthodox Judaism and served as a guide and role-model for tens of thousands of Jews, both as a Talmudic scholar and as a religious leader.
