RARE! Jiminy Cricket: A Comedy in Three Acts by David Duncan, 1941 Theatrical Play published by Walter H. Baker Company
A rare find! "Jiminy Cricket: A Comedy in Three Acts" was a stage play written by David Duncan, published in 1941 as part of the Baker's Royalty Plays series by the Walter H. Baker Company of Boston.
Of note, the play has nothing to do with the Disney movie Pinocchio released in 1940. In fact, we're not sure how they got away with the title "Jiminy Cricket" in light of the popularity of the Disney movie, but perhaps IP lawyers hadn't yet been invented in 1941.
The story follows a poor, orphaned high school boy named James whose nickname is Jiminy Cricket. Jiminy may be down on his luck, but when he goes to live with a wealthy family, his good heart carries the day and repairs the broken family, a common theme in the 1930s/40s -- money can't buy happiness.
The introduction suggests... "The story abounds in youth and its problems and the scenes between the "upper-crust" and Jiminy's circle are very amusing. All directors of high school groups and churches will want to produce this delightful play."
