RARE & UNIQUE FIND! This simple, antique wooden filing box uses a metal rod threading through the box to hold file cards. But what's inside is what puts this over the top -- a trove of Sunday school registration cards from the turn of the century!

Based on where we found this, we think these are registration cards were from a church that was founded in Watertown, Massachusetts in 1836. Each card reads "...St John's...Methodist Episcopal Sunday School" with a registration and class number, the name of the student and enrollment date (1905-1909) handwritten on the card. Some list addresses and some have cancelled dates. (We can't be sure of the church because no town was noted.)

But there's more! Undoubtedly because of the waste-not-want-not culture of the time, some of the cards were repurposed as recipe cards! Recipes were hand-written on the backs of the cards and returned to the box.

We are hoping someone will take these cards and connect them to the community from which they came - perhaps filling in some blanks of history along the way.
