The Mattapan Jewels by Fortune du Boisgobey - 1881 French Crime Novel from the Turn of the Century - English Translation
A beautifully preserved antique novel from the turn of the century, The Mattapan Jewels was written by French crime novelist Fortune du Boisgobey and published in English by Brentano's of New York.
Wikipedia's bibliography of the author says the book was originally published in French in 1881. There is no publication date in this English translation, but given the design of the book we believe it would have been published in the late 1800s or early 1900s.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR (courtesy of Wikipedia) Fortuné Hippolyte Auguste Abraham-Dubois (1821 – 1891), under the nom de plume Fortuné du Boisgobey, was a French novelist. He was prolific, with more than sixty works to his name, and became one of the most popular feuilleton (think Talk of the Town) writers. His novels dealt with crime, the police, and Parisian life. In 1885 and 1886 he was President of the Committee of the Société des gens de lettres. Du Boisgobey died in 1891 after a long illness.
The Mattapan Papers makes a wonderful addition to any antique library.
