The Wee Scotch Piper by Madeline Brandeis | 1929 Children's Book | Children of All Lands Series | Black & White Photos of Scotland
The Wee Scotch Piper was the third in the Children of All Lands series by author and photographer Madeline Brandeis. The original copyright is dated 1929 by A. Flanagan Company. This is a later edition published by Grosset & Dunlap during World War II.
This copy does not have its original dust jacket, however, we found an image of the dust jacket that promotes the Children of All Lands series and shows just how far ahead of her time the author was...
"Armed with a reflex camera and accompanied by her daughter, Marie, Madeline Brandeis has made for herself a delightful occupation - that of introducing to American children their contemporaries in other lands. In writing of her journeys to Europe to make "The Children of All Lands Stories," Mrs. Brandeis says: "I was accompanied by Marie and Ref. Marie is my daughter and Ref is m big reflex camera - both indispensable to the writing of these and my future books about children of all lands. It was Marie who guided my footsteps along the right road towards child understanding, while the trust came made possible the illustrations. Everything in these stories is for and about the modern child. Most books that Marie and I have read about foreign children were written many years ago and we wanted to see what is going on in European child life today (late 1920s). So we decided to take our eyes, ears, and Ref across the ocean, and these books will show you what we saw and heard. We think the children of other lands are really a lot like us after all!"
