From the 1950s/60s, each of these beautiful pocket trail guides feature hundreds of pages detailed maps and guidance for outdoor expeditions in and around New England. Now of course, these were written more than 60 years ago so the trails may have changed. But imagine taking your next hike with one of these in hand, learning what the trail was and see what it is now. There make great gifts for the intrepid in your life!

Here's an example of the detailed guidance provided for each trail. This is an excerpt from The Appalachian Trail in New England published in 1952...

"At the south end of the Appalachian Trail crossing over Sages Ravine Brook (0 m.) follow the trail west up Sages Ravine beside brook. (Waterfalls and timber make this spectacular; use care here.) At 0.66 m., turn slightly, uphill, and ascend the Sages Ravine. At .76 m., turn left into wood road, ascending moderately. Turn right at 1.09 m., where old wood road continues ahead, and ascend steep north slope of Bear Mtn. (Note mountain ash and bunchberry, plants of the north high country.) Reach summit of Bear Mtn. (2,316 ft.) at 1.41 m. (Register on tree northwest of the stone monument. This is the highest point in Conn.; splendid view of the Housatonic Valley to the east and south, and of Berkshires to north.) Pass monument on left and descend over ledges through scrub oak. (Former forest was destroyed by fire several years ago.)"
